Description
I painted this in Santa Fe from sketches I did of the Acequia Madre area off Canyon Road. I added the monsoonal rains rushing through the acequia creek!
I get a kick out of the crows that are in this area, they are so amazing and large! The way I have them arranged in the tree it is as if they are all having a conversation, which is exactly how they appear to me as I walk around. Crows are often portrayed as sly pranksters in Native American cultures, they have very playful natures and are fabulous acrobats and display their skills flying and diving most during mating season. They are believed to mate for life and both parents care for the kids. They have a neat hopping step and I often see them hopping around carrying things in their beaks.
This area is so special, as a neighborhood that dates back to the 1750’s and because the area remains an ecosystem corridor for the migration and wanderings of deer, coyote, bear and other wildlife that make their way down the mountain and sometimes all the way into town.
