Artist's Description
The title of this painting is about the thrill of a new family member! From the moment you meet them you know you will love and protect them forever. I have watched two family members start new families the past year and their joy has inspired me. Dedicated to Carden and Sammy Carey.
I did a series of blind contour drawings of this pair of Cooper Hawks which were photographed by my friend Joyce Stark in Ramona. The fluffy chick has eyes wide with wonder, gazing upon this amazing new world! Somewhere out in the Sonoran desert, they sit on a Palo Verde tree branch - truly a Dr. Seuss tree - with the stunning green bark and tiny round leaflets. The other desert flora: willowy Mesquite tree, Barrel Cactus, jumping Cholla Cactus, Aloes and Agaves, dance around the hatchling in joyous tribute.
A Roma black matte frame is available for $150.
About Cathy Carey
Contemporary Expressive Colorist Cathy Carey was born in Washington, DC. and grew up in Alexandria, VA. She was educated at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC, and received a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. Several years later Carey moved to Southern California and continued painting, and started a business in graphic design and illustration. She works in all media’s including Photoshop to create images. She currently maintains a studio and teaches workshops in San Diego, CA and Santa Fe, NM., and has taught at the Art Institute of CA in San Diego.
