Artist's Description
A salmon colored sunset washes over the desert floor as a Bobcat prowls among the agave stalks. With this painting I wanted to show the magical properties of an animal spirit roaming amidst the agave and cactus of the Sonoran desert. I wanted to show the pattern on the Bobcat as similar to the desert world, he is camouflaged and at home in this environment. When I am making these brushstrokes I imagine I am writing in a secret language. Some times I add real words to embed their meaning into the overall emotion of the painting. On the red mountain see if you can find the word "Love"
About Cathy Carey
Contemporary Expressive Colorist Cathy Carey was born in Washington, DC. and grew up in Alexandria, VA. She was educated at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC, and received a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. Several years later Carey moved to Southern California and continued painting, and started a business in graphic design and illustration. She works in all media’s including Photoshop to create images. She currently maintains a studio and teaches workshops in San Diego, CA and Santa Fe, NM., and has taught at the Art Institute of CA in San Diego.
