Description
This is a commission painting for a couple who have been enjoying my work in the The Ranch at Taos gallery for several years. They decided to commission a painting based on several other paintings and this is the result. The little critter represents the spirit of new life coming into the world, and he is protected by the sanctuary of Chimayo - that idea is represented by the lack of snow inside the grounds. A beautiful blanket of snow covers the hills and and the star shines in the midnight sky, glowing across the snow and lights up the doors and baby in a golden aura. The winter is so beautiful in the southwest. The pure white snow combined with the beauty of the adobe and deep blue night skies is so dramatic and compelling. The air is so dry and clear, even though cold, it feels refreshing and invigorating! Every year I do a winter scene of Chimayo and name it by a Christmas song, this one of course is Little Star of Bethlehem.
