Artist's Description
I love painting this pair of horses. You will see them throughout my body of work. What they represent to me is a symbol of freedom and strength - the still wild spirit of west. I also see horses as being very loving and familial, connected to their herd and mates, roaming the southwest. The plight of the mustangs have been in the news a lot lately, and it saddens me the way they have been mistreated. Wild horses are rounded up and stampeded off their lands and their family groups are shattered. After these roundups they are forced to live like captive live stock. Since I feel the healing properties of Chimayo knows no bounds, I wanted to place some horses there to symbolize a healing for the wild mustangs of the west.
About Cathy Carey
Contemporary Expressive Colorist Cathy Carey was born in Washington, DC. and grew up in Alexandria, VA. She was educated at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC, and received a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. Several years later Carey moved to Southern California and continued painting, and started a business in graphic design and illustration. She works in all media’s including Photoshop to create images. She currently maintains a studio and teaches workshops in San Diego, CA and Santa Fe, NM., and has taught at the Art Institute of CA in San Diego.
