Artist's Description
Standing here, I could smell the scent of fresh oranges hanging on the trees surrounding the Alhambra. It was a breathtaking day, clear and pleasantly cool with a warm sun illuminating the stunning buildings and gardens. The splash of running water in the many fountains and water walkways was ever present. This view overlooks the many different buildings of the Alhambra compound located in Granada, Spain. Across the way and up the hill can be seen one of the Pueblos Blancos or white towns, the famous villages of Andalusia Spain. Origally built in 889 and rebuilt as a palace in 1339, described by poets as a "pearl set amount emeralds" The Alhambra is a place of inspiring beauty. Widely thought by many visitors to be a paradise on earth, I have to agree it is one of the most magical places I have ever had the good fortune to visit. This is one of a series of 18 oil paintings I did of a month long trip through Spain.
About Cathy Carey
Contemporary Expressive Colorist Cathy Carey was born in Washington, DC. and grew up in Alexandria, VA. She was educated at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC, and received a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. Several years later Carey moved to Southern California and continued painting, and started a business in graphic design and illustration. She works in all media’s including Photoshop to create images. She currently maintains a studio and teaches workshops in San Diego, CA and Santa Fe, NM., and has taught at the Art Institute of CA in San Diego.
