Description

This is another painting in my series of Matisse Windows - inspired by Matisse and the expressive colorist Fauve painters. I used the watermelons from a Matisse painting and paired them with a pineapple, the traditional icon of hospitality in Virginia. All the images including the potted geranium, mean summertime to me, and the warm colors and blowing curtain remind me of wonderful summer mornings in Virginia (before it gets too humid). I painted the back of the room to be a flat decorative space, in homage to Matisse, and changed the color of the wallpaper to indicate the lighting change, but also wanted the space to be ambiguous as to depth.
