I get a wonderful serene feeling when I'm traveling through the southwest, around Santa Fe, Taos, and the sandy lands of Arizona. But at the same time I'm feeling at peace, I also feel energized by the colors and textures of the landscape. The amazing mountains in the distance, the running rivers snaking their way through the farm lands and orchards. But the best of all is when I see some horses off in the landscape, perched on a hill, or grazing in a field. I am so thrilled by the sight of the wild sprit of the west, still roaming those canyonlands.
This scene shows a little group of houses in an orchard down in the valley by the river, friends and neighbors in the community of the west.
Contemporary Expressive Colorist Cathy Carey was born in Washington, DC. and grew up in Alexandria, VA. She was educated at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC, and received a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. Several years later Carey moved to Southern California and continued painting, and started a business in graphic design and illustration. She works in all media’s including Photoshop to create images. She currently maintains a studio and teaches workshops in San Diego, CA and Santa Fe, NM., and has taught at the Art Institute of CA in San Diego.
